Cidade de Deus

The cliché "gritty" comes to mind when I think about Cidade de Deus, or "City of God" as it's known in English.
The realism of this film is spectacular, with the violence always seeming life-like and its portrayal of the culture of the Brazilian slums is engaging.
Never before has a movie portrayed such an alien world to me with such credibility. This film required no suspension of disbelief and comes with my highest recommendation.
